EADUS: Ukraine’s frontline experience enters the European defence industry

At the Eurosatory trade fair in Paris, a new association called EADUS officially launched. It connects the real combat experience of Ukrainian drone operators with European defence industry, research and institutions. The European Union may be planning the future of robotic defence in concepts running to 2030, but according to the initiative the battlefield reality shifts every month.

This is the critical gap that the newly formed pan-European platform European Association for Defence Unmanned Systems (EADUS) intends to close. It officially began operating at the Eurosatory fair in Paris. Its main goal is to connect Ukraine’s unique frontline experience and feed it directly into European development and procurement.

According to the initiative, authoritarian regimes are pouring substantial state funding into autonomous and unmanned systems, while European armed forces lack hands-on experience with these capabilities.

The association intends to act as a direct bridge between the front and industry. “Europe cannot build the future of robotic defence apart from those fighting today’s war. What works on the battlefield is not a matter of theory. It is a matter of survival,” stresses Alex Fesyk, Director of EADUS. He says the platform brings practical insight straight into development and raises the effectiveness of the technologies now emerging in Europe.

EADUS plans to connect operators of unmanned systems with manufacturers without intermediaries, build new training standards and push the use of European components, reducing dependence on non-European hardware.

Connecting the front and development

A founding member of the association is the industrial defence group S-Tech Ventures. Its head points out that the most valuable know-how is currently fragmented across small developers and operators outside the major players. “The association brings it together into something that carries weight across Europe. Only a voice like that can be a real partner in talks on smarter regulation, in research and in training the armed forces that are our customers,” explains Anna Růžičková, CEO of S-Tech Ventures.

A concrete example of this synergy is the already operating European Training Center for Combat Operators of Unmanned Systems, established in May 2026 as part of an S-Tech Ventures project, which we reported on previously. Training there is led by soldiers from elite Ukrainian brigades, following real tactical protocols.

According to EADUS senior advisor Tomáš Kopečný (former government envoy for the reconstruction of Ukraine), this is exactly how to raise the level of development in the West. “Ukraine holds a lead in this field earned through frontline experience, Europe has the industrial capacity and the technological base. EADUS puts the two together, with no needless steps in between, to get proven methods and technologies into practice as fast as possible,” Kopečný concludes.

The platform aims to operate across all domains, meaning air, land, sea and space.
